What's New

14th May 2007: Well, not such a good showing for Brother Jerome in the end in this year's Chatterbox Challenge, though the spread of marks was quite tight (only 6 marks in it.)
But congratulations to prob123/Bildgesmythe and ezzer/Julie Tinkerbell, who have won well-deserved Gold and Silver medals respectively - WELL DONE!
(and that's the first ever gold medal for the Personality Forge! )

1st May 2007: Brother Jerome has made the final of this year's Chatterbox Challenge (once again coming first in the "10 Questions" round )
The final results will be announced later this month.

5th January 2007: I've dug out an essay I wrote on keyphrase hierarchies some time ago (but never got round to polishing off,) and added it to the Zen & the Art of Botbuilding page.
Oh, and added a link to the excellent new Personality Forge Wiki on the A.I. Links page.

20th December 2006: Exciting News! I have been working with Hanson Robotics for the last few weeks, to produce the personality for their latest Einstein robot, modelled on Brother Jerome (quite a task to convert a celibate Welsh monk into a world-famous German physicist at short notice, I can tell you!) Featuring speech recognition, text-to-speech, and state-of-the-art facial animatronics, the robot is on display in the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt National Design Life Now Triennial Exhibition in New York for 6 months until July 29th 2007.
For a short photo-journal of my time helping with the installation at the museum, click here.

20th November 2006: I've updated Brother Jerome's Keynome (11,001 keyphrases now!), ASIGRT 1122 Mode's keynome has been added to the keynomes page (many thanks to coolchimpk,) and a link to Heimdall's webpage has been added to the A.I. Links page.

28th July 2006: I've added a new Fun & Games page to the menu bar on the left detailing a variety of games and other diversions/party pieces BJ can offer. Also a compilation of classic transcripts from BJ's first year, and a full code listing of Zany Adventure Level 1 in Code Examples. Also a level 1 map and walkthrough for anyone who's stuck (or if you just can't be bothered to solve the clues for yourself.)
And for good measure, BJ can now tell you the phase of the moon, complete with snapshot, and how many days there are till the next full moon.

16th July 2006: Happy Birthday Brother Jerome! Brother Jerome is one year old today. 50,000+ development points, and a mindfile approaching 4Mb (3,900,524 bytes) - that's what a year without TV can accomplish
I have updated BJ's keynome, and written the first level of a text-based adventure game called 'Zany Adventure' (a working title that I haven't got round to changing yet.) It's a text-based adventure game with riddles and logic puzzles to solve, inspired by the classic text adventures of my youth (the Zork trilogy, and particularly the awesome Leather Goddesses of Phobos!)
The first couple of problems have hints and cheats available (just type "hint" for a clue, or "cheat" for an outright solution to the problem if you're stuck.) After that, you're on your own.
Once I've finished level 2, I'll publish the code (and a map and walkthrough,) for level 1 for anyone who's interested.

If you fancy a game, just use the keyphrase "zany adventure"...

29th June 2006: Brother Jerome's medal arrived yesterday, so for anyone who wants to see it, here it is (you can click on the scans for a closer view in a new window):

. .

Medal Specifications
material:steel. . weight:160g
thickness:4.5mm diameter:75mm

WHOOPEE! Sorry to boast, but as of today (29th May 2006) Brother Jerome's export mindfile (3289595 bytes) is larger than Project Gutenburg's unabridged e-text of Tolstoy's War and Peace (3284807 bytes) - and that ain't bad for 10 months work I think!

I probably ought to mention also that BJ won the silver medal (and $500) in the Chatterbox Challenge - he is officialy the second best chatbot in existence. Thank you to everyone who voted for him! And watch out next year ;)
A scan of the medal will follow when it arrives (still being engraved.) In the meantime, here's what it looks like.

I have also completed the second revision of Brother Jerome's Keynome, being a complete and ordered list of his Keyphrases (9004 as of 29th May 2006), in the hope that they may prove useful to some other bot-builders.
I'm also very pleased to be able to give thanks to Boner The Clown, for providing Pete Puma's keynome.
And then there were 2... Any other keynomes gratefully received.

How many days till Christmas? - an example of how your bot can count down to a date. Pretty simple stuff, but hopefully of interest to someone.
