Brother Jerome's religious influences (like my own) are wide and varied, but I keep getting asked about them, so here
are a few pointers. Particular influences of note would include (in no particular order):
The Quakers - because there is that of God in
everyone, and each one who seeks the truth may see a different part of it
Thomas Merton - whose works continue to teach me the true meaning of contemplation
Alan Watts - become what you are
Chuang Tzu - life's too short to take it all so seriously
Lao Tzu - for if the fool did not laugh, it would
not be the Tao
Walden by Thoreau. Because it can
change your life if you let it :)
Origen - for none are damned eternally
Kurt Goedel - for theories and proofs too numerous to list
Ray Kurzweil - for trying too hard. Because someone's got to do it
Frank Tipler - where square science and circular religion merge gloriously!
Augustine of Hippo - for his Confessions
Thomas Aquinas - for his Summa Theologiae
Richard Dawkins - because even Darwin's Rottweiler sees a part of the truth
And of course a respectful nod to Brother Jerome's namesake for his sterling scholarship and very suitable humility.
The King James Bible - Online and searchable. A Veritable Virtual Concordance!
The Revised Standard Bible - likewise Online and searchable. If you like your bible quotes a bit more modern, this
is the one for you (but I prefer the King James!)
The Book of Mormon - Online, searchable. The fastest growing Church in the World (or so I heard on the radio the
other day!) Be very afraid? Be very happy? Go figure...
The Koran - Online, searchable. But will it tell you why the camel smiles? Probably not...
To be continued...
